Fatalities in Indonesia School Collapse Climb to Fourteen

(MENAFN) The death toll from the collapse of a school building in Indonesia’s East Java province climbed to 14 on Friday, as rescue teams continued their urgent search for dozens of students trapped under the rubble.

According to Abdul Muhari, head of the Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, a total of 167 students were accounted for. Of these, 104 have been located and are safe.

He further reported that fourteen survivors remain hospitalized, receiving treatment, while 89 have been discharged. Additionally, one patient has been transferred to another hospital for further care.

Search and rescue teams remain actively engaged in locating 49 students still missing, based on the school’s attendance records.

The tragedy unfolded at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, where hundreds of students—predominantly teenage boys—were inside the building when it collapsed on Monday. The incident initially claimed at least five lives and left around 100 injured.
